Dodd Civil were engaged to provide consultancy services for an 800 unit (not including earlier stages) comprehensive development in Orewa.
Dodd Civil Consultants were engaged just as Earthworks were starting.
THE PROJECT
- Civil design works associated with the development including drainage, pavement design and earthworks
- Supervising construction of all civil works
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
There were many constraints to be accommodated, planning height limits, balanced earthworks and existing construction to tie into. In conjunction with this we reviewed all material stockpiled on site with the assistance of geotechnical engineers to confirm suitability of fill, most was not suitable and special efforts were made to place this material in areas where “non-engineered” fill was acceptable.
The site is a mixture of multi-storey apartment blocks with some townhouse terraced developments on the higher slopes.
This site has been very difficult to work due to poor ground conditions on the lower lying areas which was also within a large flood plain reservoir.
Stormwater quality and stormwater routing had to be accommodated (designed by others) but then had to be redone and updated by Dodd Civil to match an evolving masterplan.
