Tara Iti golf course was developed by Richard Cayne, an American with a significant interest in golf. The Course was designed by Tom Doak and the redevelopment was partnered by John Darby.
Tara Iti is ranked No.2 on Golf Digest's list of the World's best courses outside of the United States (2020).

THE PROJECT
Dodd Civil Consultants were responsible for all Civil Design and observation for the Golf course and facilities including:
- Roading
- Building Platforms
- Drainage
- Servicing
- Design of a very large reservoir for irrigation
- Incorporated into the Golf course were residential sites, these were provided with full servicing design
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
This was a unique opportunity to provide a sympathetic design to compliment the original golf course design.
The development has a winding and undulating access road that meanders through the sand dunes fitting in with the natural environment.
Local aggregate was sourced from a quarry 5km away and "stabilised" to provide a very cost effective pavement while also minimising impact on the local roading network and minimising the carbon footprint of construction (4km of roading construction).
Stormwater was managed by soakage back into the sand aquifer.
The reservoir was formed in sand with the embankments stabilised with cement to maintain shape then a liner constructed. Piping valves and fittings were designed to connect to the pumping system.
Dodd civil Consultants also supported the local Dottrel campaign along with the Developer to protect the local Dottrel colony in the area.
